Johann[es] Ditter, a cobbler, his wife Maria and children (Gertraude, age 4; Johann [Philipp], age 2) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Johann Grapp.
Johannes Ditter, his wife Maria, and children (Gertrud, age 5; Johann Philipp, age 3) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Frank in 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 56.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Ditter is a cobbler from the German region of Solm. The 1767 census records that he is a farmer from the German village of Feinstein in the region of Solms.
A translation of the 1767 census (as well as the Oranienbaum passenger list) records this surname as Dietrich, but subsequent censuses consistently record the Johann Philipp and his descendants with the surname of Ditter.
