Thumin, Wladimir

The Rev. Wladimir Thumin was born 8 November 1866 and died in 1912 in Riga, Latvia. He was ordained on 22 January 1895 and served the congregations in Schemacha-Baku (Caucasus) (1895-1907), Beideck (1908-1910), Zhitomir (Volhynia) (1926-1931), and Dunajewzy (Poland) (1887-1915, 1918-1926). From 1915-1918, he was banished to the Russian interior.

Thomson, Gustav Adolf

The Rev. Gustav Adolf Thomson, son of Gustav Thomson & Henriette Breyer, was born 29 July 1857 in Audern, Livland (Latvia). After completing a gymnasium education in Pernau, he studied theology at the University of Dorpat and was ordained on 23 January 1883.

He served the Lutheran congregations in Gnadentau (from 1883-1888) and Saratov (from 1888 until his death in 1913). He also served as the Provost of the Lutheran congregations on the Wiesenseite from 1892 to 1913.

He died 6 April 1913 in Saratov.

Thomas, Karl Heinrich

Karl Heinrich Thomas was born 3 October 1808 in Breslau, Silesia (Prussia). He was the son of a battalion doctor. He is believed to have died in 1860. He married an unknown daughter of James Galloway from Edinburgh who was serving as a missionary in Karras, North Caucasus, and Circassia. Another of James Galloway's daughters, Nancy, was married to Pastor Christian Gottlieb Hegele. On 19 April 1830, he began his theological studies in Breslau (Germany) and was ordained in 1840.

Strobel, Theodore Christian

Pastor Strobel is not a descendant of Volga German's, but served several Volga German communities during his ministry. His father, Jacob Strobel (1868-1958), was from the Bessarabian colony of Beresina and his mother, Katherina Dobler (1868-1956), was from Teplitz. Pastor Strobel was born 4 November 1893 in Bethune, Colorado, and died in Portland, Oregon, on 13 February 1983. He is buried in the Hope Congregational Cemetery in Kit Carson County, Colorado. Pastor Strobel was married twice and he and his second wife died within hours of each other.

Streck, Alexander

The Rev. Alexander Streck was born 25 June 1883 in Jost [some sources cite his birth in Kutter, but that is believed to be incorrect]. He was married to Veronika.

He served in Grimm from 1914-1924 and Astrakhan from 1924-1928. From 1928 to 1936 he served jointly the parishes of Saints Peter & Paul and Saint Michael in Moscow. During this time he also ministered to the Protestants who were working at the American Embassy in Moscow.
