Knoll (Grimm)

Jakob Knoll and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Grimm in Household No. Gm124 along with his mother Appolonia (age 62).

Jakob Knoll and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Grimm in Household No. 201.

Christel

Widower Georg Kristel from Grimm is recorded on the 1798 census of Kolb in Household No. Ko50.

The death of Georg Christel in 1834 is recorded on the 1834 census of Kolb in Household No. 65.

Adam, Jakob, and Leonhard Christel, sons of Georg Christel, are recorded on the 1857 census of Kolb in Household No. 81.

Scherber / Zerber / Waffel*

Konrad Zerber [sic] and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Grimm in Household No. Gm079.

The agricultural appendix to the 1798 census of Grimm records his name as Konrad Scherber.

This is believed to be the same person as orphan Johann Konrad Waffel (age 19) who is recorded on the 1767 census of Grimm in Household No. 53 along with the Jost Bäcker family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Waffel and Bäcker families.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Scherber/Zerber/Waffel family among the Volga German colonies.

Groth, Heinrich

Heinrich Groth, son of Heinrich Groth, was a leading activist for the re-establishment of a Volga German Republic in the latter days of the Soviet Union. He served as the secretary of the Coordinating Committee of Soviet Germans. He remained active in the causes of Germans from Russia. Heinrich Groth moved to Germany in 2003 and served as chairman of the Russlanddeutsche in Deutschland group there.

The Volga German ancestors of Heinrich Groth came from the daughter colony of Brunnental, and before that from Walter.

Schmidt (Grimm-8)

Johannes Schmidt and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Grimm in Household No. Gm064.

Barbara Schmidt, widow of Johannes Schmidt, and their children are recorded on the 1834 census of Grimm in Household No. 87.

The grandchildren of Johannes & Barbara Schmidt are recorded on the 1857 census of Grimm in Household No. 93 along with a note that grandson Johannes Schmidt and his family moved from Grimm to Oberdorf in 1852.

Johannes Schmidt from Grimm and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Oberdorf in Household No. 69.

Schmidt (Grimm-7)

Johann Georg Schmidt and his family (children: Johannes, age 19; Margaretha Barbara, age 18; Anna Maria, age 17; Johann Heinrich, age 15; Johann Martin, age 13; Anna Margaretha, age 10; Johann Konrad, age 7; Johann Friedrich, age 4; Appolonia, age 3) are recorded on the 1798 census of Grimm in Household No. Gm021.

Katharina Schmidt, widow of Johann Georg Schmidt, and her family are recorded on the 1834 census of Grimm in Household No. 57.

[Johann] Heinrich Schmidt and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Grimm in Household No. 222.

Schmidt (Grimm-6)

The widow and children of Peter Schmidt from Grimm (Elisabeth, age 18; Susanna Margaretha, age 16; Johann Konrad, age 14; Anna Susanna, age 10; Anna Katharina, age 9; Johann Peter, age 8; Johann Georg, age 3; Heinrich Konrad, age 1; Johann David, age 1) are recorded on the 1798 census of Galka in Household No. Gk24.

[Johann] Konrad Schmidt and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Galka in Household No. 27 along with a note that his brother Heinrich Konrad had died there in 1820.
