Fraas (Wittmann)

An article by Wilhelm Funk records the following going to Russia:

Jakob Frasz, cobbler (Schuhmacher), son of Joh. Frasz, cobbler (Schuhmacher) in Weiszendorf near Neustadt on the Aisch, Catholic, & Catharina Willhelm, daughter of the deceased Philipp Willhelm, day laborer (Taglöhner) in Wächtersbach in the area of Isenburg, Lutheran, were married on 6 June 1766 in the Lutheran Church in Wöhrd.

Jakob Fras, a farmer, and his wife Maria are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Beauregard in Household No. 39.

Glass (Wittmann)*

In 1774, Nikolaus Glass fled the colony of Wittmann during the Pugachev Rebellion and is believed to have moved to Astrakhan.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Glass family among the Volga German colonies.

Götz (Wittmann)

There are two Götz families in the Volga German colony of Wittmann. Their relationship, if any, needs further research.

(1) Widow Gertrude Götz, her daughter, and her daughter's family are recorded on the 1798 census of Wittmann in Household No. Wm43.

(2) Johann Götz and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Wittmann in Household No. Wm21.

Kunkel

Johann Georg Hunkel [sic], his wife Gertrude, children (Adam, age 6; Adam [again], age 2½), and a single woman Magdalena [surname not recorded] (age 20) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Franz Nikolaus Schröder.

George [sic] Kunkel, his wife Gerdruta [sic], son Adam (age 2½), and maid Magdalena [surname recorded as Kunkel] are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Adam died in route.

Schneider (Wittmann)

Christian Schneider and his wife Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 September 1766.

Christian Schneider, a farmer, and his wife Margaretha are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Beauregard. Christian Schneider and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Wittmann in Household No. Wm35.

The 1767 census records that Christian Schneider came from the German village of Lauf.

Klein (Wittmann)*

There are two Kleins who arrived in Lübeck together in 1766 and travelled from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 together. They are presumed to be brothers, but further research is needed to confirm this relationship.

(1) Johann [Konrad] Klein, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 10 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Peter Pink.

Conrad Klein is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Meier (Wittmann-2)

Sebastian Meier, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, sons (Johannes, age 3; Johann Georg, age 1¾), and stepson Johann Just [Wentz] (age 12) arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 12 May 1766 aboard the galliot Anna Catharina with the skipper Daniel Geier at the helm.

Sebastian Meyer [sic], his wife Eisabeth, sons (Johannes, age 4; George, age ½), and stepson Johann Jost [Wentz] (age 12) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Oranienbaum in 1767.
