Volga German families moved from the Volga River Valley to the Don River Valley in search of additional farm land.
Beketny was a farmstead (Khutor) that was founded by colonists relocating from the village of Salfeld.
Today, only the remants of a collective from the Soviet era remain where Beketny was located.
