History

The colony of Johannesdorf was founded in 1847 [some sources date founding in 1846] by ethnic Germans resettling from the Black Sea region.

On 15 April 1848, the following colonists from the Volga German colonists petitioned to settled in Johannesdorf. They had intended to settle in Nikolayevna but there was no more land available there.

Albert Hermann, Heinrich Hill, Friedrich Reifschneider, Karl Bogens [Borgens?], Nikolaus Meier, Ludwig Steiner, Peter Döhoff, Heinrich Zitzmann, Georg Meier, Johannes Volk, Peter Aschenbrenner, Nikolaus Bartholomeus, Jacob Klein, Georg Nazarenus, Heinrich Hohnstein, Julius Seibel, Friedrich Koch, and Prussian foreigner Martin Klexin.

Originally the colonists were mostly wheat farmers, but over time the colony became known for cattle breeding.

In the fall of 1941, as the Nazi Wehrmacht approached Rostov, the residents of Johannesdorf were deported to the east and the collective farm was liquidated.

At the time of the 1941 Deportation, the following surnames have been identified in the colony:

Axt, August, Anachin, Altergott, Bakin, Belderkow, Braun, Degen, Dank, Gröning, Hecht, Hübner, Huber, Faltin, Koch, Klein, Knels, Kleksin, Körner, Jahn, Lupp, Mirowiski, Messerle, Minz, Martens, Schilling, Pazer, Reiband, Rinus, Pirch, Seibel, Sparmann, Schmalz, Weber

Today, what remains of the former colony of Johannesdorf is known as Molochnyy.
