Henke*

Johann Daniel Henke, a single tailor (Schneider), settled in the Volga German colony of Stephan on 24 August 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 35.

The 1767 census records that Johann Daniel Henke came from the German village of Barenburg [?].

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.

Treise

Johann Franz Dreise [sic], a tailor (Schneider), his wife Anna Elisabeth, and children (Nikolaus, age 11; Anna Katharina, age 9) are recorded on the 1767 census of Stephan in Household No. 9. They had settled there on 24 August 1767.

Johann Franz Treise and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Stephan in Household No. Sp30.

Johann Franz Treise from Stephan and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Gnadentau.

Johann Christian Treise from Stephan and his family relocated to the daughter colony of Wiesenmüller in about 1865.

Bender (Stephan)

Johann Jacob Benner [sic], son of Johann Georg Bender, was confirmed in 1751 in Windhausen. [Johann Georg Bender was buried in Windhausen on 28 October 1750 - age 36 years old.]

On 10 November 1765, Johann Jacob Bender moved to Merlau.

Johann Jacob Bender from Windhausen married on 8 April 1766 in the Lutheran Church of Büdingen to Anna Juliana Grün, daughter of Johann Caspar Grün from Merlau. She had been born in Merlau on 5 August 1742.

Kühnholz*

Johann Heinrich Kühnholz and his wife are recorded on the 1798 census of Stephan in Household No. Sp02.

Meier (Stephan)

There are 2 Meier families recorded from Stephan. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.

(1) Balthasar Meier and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Stephan in Household No. Sp21.

Heinrich Meier, son of Balthasar Meier, and his family are recorded on the 1850 census of Stephan in Household No. 52.

Georg Meier, son of Heinrich Meier, from Stephan and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Gnadentau.

Post (Stephan)

Johannes Post, his wife Anna Margreta, and children (Johannes, age 4; Conrad, born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that father Johannes and son Conrad died en route.

In 1790, Johann Post and his family moved from Stephan to Müller.

Johannes Post from Stephan is recorded on the 1798 census of Müller in Household No. Ml02.

The death of Johannes Post in 1823 is recorded on the 1834 census of Müller in Household No. 28.

Johann Konrad Nord from Stephan and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Müller in Household No. Ml33.

Stebenow

Andreas Friedrich Stebenow, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Johann Grapp.

Andreas Stafenon [sic] is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1766.

Andreas Stebenow [recorded as Stephan, a merchant (Kaufmann), and his [new] wife Katharina Elisabeth settled in the Volga German colony of Stephan on 24 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 1.

Bäcker / Becker (Stephan-2)*

Johann Konrad Bäcker, a farmer, his wife Anna Kunigunda, and son Johann Georg (age 2-weeks) are recorded on the 1767 census of Stephan in Household No. 5. They had settled there on 24 August 1767.

Widow Anna Kunigunda Bäcker is recorded on the 1798 census of Stephan in Household No. Sp20.

The 1767 census records that Johann Konrad Bäcker came from the German village of Wohnfeld.

The death of Konrad Bäcker in 1818 is recorded on the 1834 census of Stephan in Household No. 54.

Stöhr (Volmer)*

Michael Stöhr (age 28) a single farmer, is recorded on a list of colonists dated 23 September 1765 who were gathering in the town of Worms. He had arrived in Worms on 4 September 1765.

Michael Stöhr, a farmer, and his [new] wife Katharina settled in the Volga German colony of Volmer on 18 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 34.
