Ritter (Luzern)

Johannes Ritter, son of Johannes Ritter & Anna Maria Dehmer, was baptized 10 August 1713 in Orb. He married on 14 June 1739 in St. Martin's Church in Orb to Anna Catharina Pfeifer, daughter of Johannes Pfeifer & Anna Eck. Anna Catharina Pfeifer had been born in Orb on 24 April 1719.

Kleispies*

The parish register of St. Martin's Church in Orb records the baptism of Margaretha Kleespies, the illegitimate daughter of Anna Maria Kleespies, on 2 May 1757.

Anna Maria Kleespies married at St. Martin's Church in Orb on 3 July 1763 to Johannes Adam Basser.

Adam Basser, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 10 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Peter Pink.

Herr (Luzern / Pfeifer)

There are two Herr families who are believed to be related because the 1767 census records that they both came from the German village of Orb. The first has been located in the parish registers of Orb, but additional research on the second is needed to determine what, if any, the relationship is between the two.

Holtner*

Gottfried Holler [sic] and Anna Margaretha Buch [sic] were married 10 October 1765 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lübeck.

Gottfried Holtner [sic], a baker (Bäcker), and his wife Anna Maria Bach are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 79. They had settled there on 27 August 1766.

In 1778, widower Gottfried Holter [sic] moved from Katharinenstadt to Orlovskaya.

The 1767 census records that Gottfried Holtner [sic] came from the German region of Magdeburg.

Hendel*

Johann Michael Hendel, a tailor (Schneider), and his wife Rosina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the ship Der Junge Heinrich under the command of Skipper Heinrich Niemann.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 1 August 1767 where Johann Michael Hendel is recorded in Household No. 41 along with his [new] wife Maria.

The 1767 census records that Johann Michael Hendel came from the German village of Susshausen in the Württemberg region.

Heidecker*

Peter Heÿdecker & Elisabeth Krüger were married 2 September 1766 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lübeck.

Peter Heidecker, a cloth weaver (Tuchweber), and his wife Anna settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 17 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 149.

The 1767 census records that Peter Heidecker came from Luxembourg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Heidecker family among the Volga German colonies.

Grafar*

Mattias Grafar, a weaver (Weber), and his wife Dorothea arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 10 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Peter Pink.

Mathias Graffa [sic], his wife Dorothea, and newborn son Joh. Heinrich are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 3 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 154 along with son Johann (age 1).

Gorschani*

Andreas Gorschani, a physician (Arzt), and his wife Marianna settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 27 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 77.

The 1767 census records that Andreas Gorschani came from the German village of Schalkhausen [?].

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
