Luwieß*

Johann Luwieß, a single weaver (Weber), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Georg Luwiess is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Berger (Balzer)

Thomas Berger and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz036.

The death of Thomas Berger in 1831 is recorded on the 1834 census of Balzer in Household No. 118.

Hell (Basel)

In 1782, Peter Hell moved from Basel to Bettinger.

Peter Hell from Basel is recorded on the 1798 census of Bettinger in Household No. Bt13.

Peter Hell and his descendants are recorded on the 1834 census of Bettinger in Households No. 35, 45, 87, & 132.

Some translators record this surname as Heil.

Heidt (Basel)

Georg Heidt and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Basel in Household No. Bs18.

In 1794, Johann Daniel Heidt moved from Basel to Zürich.

Daniel Heidt from Basel is recorded on the 1798 census of Zürich in Household No. Zr38.

Grass (Basel)*

Johannes Grass, a farmer, his wife Anna, and daughter Anna (age 4) are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 25 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Basel in 1768.

The 1767 census records that Johannes Grass came from the German village of Breitenbach.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Grass family among the Volga German colonies.

Gäbler

Johann Gäbler, a farmer, and his wife Maria are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 29 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Basel in 1768.

Johann Gäbler is recorded on the 1798 census of Basel in Household No. Bs15.

The 1767 census records that Johann Gäbler came from the German village of Münchhausen.
