Maurer (Rothammel)

Hubertus Maurer, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Johann Grapp.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Rothammel on 21 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 4.

The 1767 census records that Hubertus Maurer came from the German village of Lieser in the Trier region.

Maurer (Mariental-1)*

Philipp Jakob Maurer, a barber (Friseur), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 16 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 6.

The 1767 census records that Philipp Jakob Maurer came from the German village of Bludenz in Austria.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Maurer family among the Volga German colonies.

Maul (Straub)

Valentin Maul, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Anna, age 7; Johann, age 5; Tobias [sic], age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard the ship named Der Junge Heinrich under the command of Skipper Heinrich Niemann.

Valentin Maul, a farmer, his wife Anna Maria, and children (Anna Elisabeth, age 8; Johann Georg, age 6; Johann Georg Thomas, age 3) are recorded on the 1767 census of Straub in Household No. 47. They had settled in Straub on 12 July 1767.

Maul (Kutter)

Konrad Maul, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a galliot named Concordia under the command of Skipper Jakob Bauert.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Kutter on 8 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 40.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Konrad Maul came from the German region of Braunfels.

Matza

Franz Matza, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Johann Grapp.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Rothammel on 21 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 7.

Peter Martin Matza and his brother Anton Matza, believed to be the sons of Franz Matza, are recorded on the 1798 census of Rothammel in Household No. Rt12.

The 1767 census records that Franz Matza came from the German village of Raumbach in the Zweibrücken region.

Matthisen (Stahl am Tarlyk-1)

Johann Georg Matthisen, a butcher (Fleischer), and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard the ship named Der Junge Heinrich under the command of Skipper Heinrich Niemann.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Tarlyk on 13 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 5.

The 1767 census records that Johann Georg Matthisen came from the German town of Lübeck.
