Grünewald (Kukkus)*

Kaspar Grünewald (age 20) settled in the Volga German colony of Kukkus on 26 June 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 40 along with the family of Johannes Berger. No relationship between Kaspar Grünewald and Johannes Berger is recorded.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Grünewald family among the Volga German colonies.

Grünewald (Dehler)*

Christian Grunenwald [sic] from Giederheim [sic] in the area of Maynz & Elisabetha Schuh from Oberwiessenbach were married on 12 May 1766 in the City Lutheran Church of Friedberg.

Christian Grünewald, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Heidemann.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Dehler on 26 June 1767. Christian Grünewald died. His surviving daughter Anna Margaretha is recorded in Dehler on the 1767 census in Household No. 55.

Grün (Köhler)

Philipp Grün, a farmer, his wife Eva, and daughter Anna Margaretha (age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the pink Cargo under the command of Lieutenant Moses Davydov.

Widower Philipp Grün and his daughter Anna Margaretha (age 8) are recorded on the 1767 census of Köhler in Household No. 69. They had arrived They settled in Köhler on 21 August 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Philipp Grün came from the German region of Mainz while the 1767 census records that he came from the German region of Hanau.

Grune

Johann Christian Heinirch Grune from Sollnitz married Agnessa Catharina Stock from Großkühnau on 11 October 1746 in Sollnitz (near Dessau). At the time of immigration, the family was living in nearby Kleutsch.

Heinrich Gruhne, a farmer, his wife Agness, and children (Johann, age 20; Maria, age 16½; Sophia, age 14; Christoph age 11; Johanna, age 5; Elisabeth, age ¾) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Gro(h)man(n)

Justus Grohmann, a mason (Maurer), his wife Katharina, and children (Dorothea, age 12; Katharina, age 8; Robert, age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard the ship named Der Junge Heinrich under the command of Skipper Heinrich Niemann.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Dinkel on 27 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 35.

The 1767 census records that Justus Grohmann came from the German town of Kiel in the region of Holstein.

Gries (Dinkel)

Heinrich Gries, a farmer, and his family immigrated in 1761 to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) where they remained until 1765.

They arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 3 June 1766 aboard the galliot Adler under the command of Skipper Paul Dolph Drath.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Dinkel on 12 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 9.

Both the Eichhorn book and the 1767 census record that Heinrich Gries came from the German village of Ziegenberg in the area of Darmstadt.

Grenz

Johann Michael Grens [sic] & Maria Catharina Vogler, both from Reibach, were married on 19 April 1766 in the Lutheran Church of Büdingen.

Michael Grentz and his wife Maria arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a galliot named Kronstadt under the command of Lieutenant Samuel Gibbs.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Holstein on 7 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 36.

Michael Krentz [sic] and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Franzosen in Household No. 70.

Kress (Rothammel)

Anna Maria Kress, daughter of Johann Heinrich Kress & Anna Maria Unger, was born 5 April 1760 in Dürkheim.

Johann Heinrich Kress, a blacksmith (Schmied), his wife Anna, and children (Anna, age 10; Joseph, age 8; Maria, age 6; Katharina, age 4; Hubertus, age ½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Johann Grapp.
