Lais / Leis (Hussenbach)

Johann Nicolaus Leiß, son of Johann Jost Leys (22 April 1693-6 July 1759) & Eva Maria Waither (10 September 1695-June 1759), was born 14 March 1721 in Lißberg.

Johann Nicolaus Leiß, citizen and tailor (Schneider) in Lißberg, married Anna Margaretha Liebegott, daughter of Johann Philipp Liebegott of Effolderbach.

Koske*

Joseph [Andreas] Koske, a tanner, his wife Anna, and daughter Elisabeth (age 3) arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 May 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Jacob Janson.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hussenbach and are recorded there on the 1798 census in Household No. Hs051.

The death of Andreas Koska [sic] in 1800 is recorded on the 1811 census of Hussenbach in Household No. 51.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Joseph Koske came from the Netherlands.

Klehmann (Dietel)

Hannß Kleinmann, son of Johannes Kleinmann & Barbar Linninger, was born 28 February 1733 and baptized 1 March 1733 in Auenheim, a few kilometers north of Kehl.

The marriage of Hannß Kleinmann & Barbara Häckel is recorded in the parish register of Kehl on 10 August 1760.

Barbara Häckel had been born 21 December and baptized 23 December 1736 in Wolfisheim, France.

Kegele / Kegler

Christoph Kegele, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and children (Johanna, age 13; Georg David, age 10; Johann, age 7; Margaretha, age 5) arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 May 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Jacob Janson.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hussenbach. Sons Georg David and Johannes are recorded there on the 1798 census in Households No. Hs052 & Hs045, respectively. Daughter Anna Margaretha is recorded on the 1798 census of Frank in Household No. Fk001.

Karst

Johann Kärst, a carpenter, and his wife Christina arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 May 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Jacob Janson.

They may be related to the Karst family that is recorded on the 1798 census of Hussenbach in Household No. Hs038.

The death of Johann Karst in 1798 is recorded on the 1811 census of Hussenbach in Household No. 38.

The death of Jakob Karst, son of Johann Karst, in 1831 is recorded on the 1834 census of Hussenbach in Household No. 59.

Hussenbach

Jakob Hussenbach, a tailor, and his wife [Anna] Maria [Bierbach] arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 May 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Jacob Janson.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hussenbach. It is after Jakob Hussenbach that the colony of Hussenbach took its name.

In 1788, widow Anna Maria Hussenbach moved to the Volga German colony of Grimm where she married Philipp Roth. She is recorded there on the 1798 census in Household No. Gm099.

Horn (Hussenbach)

Christian Horn, a farmer, and his wife Dorothea arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 May 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Jacob Janson.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hussenbach and Christian is recorded there on the 1798 census in Household No. Hs101.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Christian Horn came from the German region of Magdeburg.

Hoffmann (Messer)*

Johann Balthasar Hoffman, son of Phillip Hoffman, was baptized on 21 June 1719 in Gründau. He had been born in Mittelgründau.

He married Anna Catharina (surname not recorded) on 29 March 1742.  The Gründau parish registers record the births of four chidren to this couple, each born in Mittelgründau: (1) Johann Michael, born 3 April 1743, died 5 February 1749; (2) Catharina, born 3 July 1745, died 14 Feb 1757; (3) Eva, born 8 February 1748, died 24 May 1756; and (4) Anna Margaretha, born 26 December 1750, died 31 May 1762.

Hoffmann (Merkel)*

Karl Hoffmann, a single cloth weaver (Tuchweber), settled in the Volga German colony of Merkel on 17 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 49.

The 1767 census records that Karl Hoffmann came from Poland.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Hoffmann family among the Volga German colonies.
