Schmidt (Nieder-Monjou-3)*

Weigand Schmidt, a blacksmith (Schmied), and his wife, Eleonora, settled in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou on 3 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 83.

The 1767 census records that Weigand Schmidt is from the German village of Romrod in the district of Darmstadt.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.

Schmidt (Unknown-3)*

Peter Schmidt, his wife Elisabeth, and daughter Elisabeth (age 2¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hans Karholm.

Peter Schmidt and his wife Elisabeth are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Peter Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife, Elisabeth, arrived in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou on 3 August 1767. They are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 34.

Schmidt (Unknown-4)*

Johannes Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife, Anna, arrived in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou on 3 August 1767. They are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 Nieder-Monjou census in Household No. 35.

It is not known in which colony they settled.

The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Pfaffenwiesbach.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.

Lauer (Ober-Monjou)*

Ludwig Lauer and his wife Anna Katharina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Franz Nikolaus Schröder.

Ludewig [sic] Lauer and his wife Anna Catharina are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Widower Ludwig Lauer, a hosier (Strumpfwirker), settled in the Volga German colony of Ober-Monjou on 3 August 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 95.

Maibach

Nikolaus Maibach, a tailor (Schneider), and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

Nikolaus Maibach, his wife, Maria Magdalena, and his daughters by his first wife settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 12 May 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 42.

In 1788, Sebastian Maibach moved from Preuss to Dehler. By 1798, Sebastian is living in Hildmann.  In 1797, Johannes Maibach moved from Preuss to Dehler.

Useldinger

Nicolas Useldinger & Margaretha Fischer had 3 children whose births are recorded on the parish register of Remich, Luxemburg: (1) Joseph, born 19 March 1743; (2) Matthias, born 31 December 1745; and (3) Barbara, born 7 March 1749. Mother Margaretha died in Remich on 18 January 1760.

Joseph married Maria [surname unknown] and the birth of a son is recorded on the parish register of Remich: Oswald, born 4 April 1764.

Basgall

Jean Pasqual, a milliner (Hutmacher), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 26 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 55.

In 1793, Peter Pasqual moved from Franzosen to Husaren.

In 1796, Johannes Pasqual moved from Franzosen to Rothammel.

The 1834 census of Husaren (Household No. 14) records that Peter Basgall moved from Husaren to Ober-Monjou in 1825.

The 1834 census of Husaren (Household No. 21) records that Anton Basgall moved from Husaren to Brabander.

Renoir*

Franz Renoir, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Anna, age 14; Peter, age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Der Jäger under the command of Skipper Gabriel Will.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 15 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 79.

The 1767 census records that Franz Renoir came from the village of Remich in Luxembourg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Renoir family among the Volga German colonies.
