Gige*

Widower Lastinus Gige [?], a sheepskin tanner (Schaffelgerber), settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 3 August 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 174.

The 1767 census records that Lastinus Gige [?] came from the German village of Eisenach in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.

Gärtner (Katharinenstadt-2)*

Widower Kaspar Gärtner, a carver (Schnitzer) whose wife had died after arrival in Katharinenstadt, and his children (Anna, age 10; Franz, age 4; Johann, age ½) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 169. They had settled there on 27 August 1767.

The 1767 census records that Kaspar Gärtner came from the German village of Dermbach in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.

Funk (Katharinenstadt)

Johann Jakob Funk, a baker (Bäcker), his wife Anna, and son Anton (age 9-months) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 157. They had settled there on 17 August 1767.

The 1767 census records that Johann Jakob Funk came from the German village of Sterzhausen.

Bernhard(t) (Katharinenstadt)

In 1790, Johann Friedrich Bernhard moved from Katharinenstadt to Mariental.

In 1790, Georg Bernhard entered military service.

Christoph Bernhard and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. Ka114.

Friedrich Bernhard from Katharinenstadt and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Mariental in Household No. Mt40.

Eckardt (Katharinenstadt-2)

Johann Christian Eckardt, a baker (Bäcker), and his wife Christina are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 159. They had settled there on 23 July 1767.

Christian Eckardt and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. Ka045.

The 1767 census records that Johann Christian Eckardt came from the German village of Halberstadt in the Brandenburg region.

Fries (Hummel)

There are two Fries families from Hummel recorded on the 1798 census of Basel. They are presumed to be brothers, but further research is necessary to confirm this.

(1) In 1785, Leonhard Fries moved from Hummel to Basel. Leonhard Fries and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Basel in Household No. Bs03.

(2) Christian Fries from Hummel and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Basel in Household No. Bs15.

Preisel

Stephan Preisel and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Hummel in Household No. Hm21 along with a note that his brother Joachim had gone to the Caucasus in 1786, but had returned.

In 1786, Nikolaus Preisel moved from Hummel to Schwed.
