Hubert (Nieder-Monjou)

Leonhard Hubert, a tailor (Schneider), and his wife Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Leonh. Hubert, his wife Magdalena, and daughter Susanna (born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that newborn Susanna also died en route.

Diehl (Nieder-Monjou)*

Jakob Diehl, a master papermaker (Papiermachermeister), his wife Anna, and daughters (Elisabeth [Louisa?], age 5; Maria, age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Franz Nikolaus Schröder.

Jacob Teil [sic], his wife Anna, and daughters (Elisabeth, age 6; Maria, age 3) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Kreiss (Norka)*

Christian Kreiss and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Norka in Household No. Nr013.

Christian Kreiss and his family are recorded on the 1811 census of Norka in Household No. 13.

The death of Christian Kreiss in 1826 is recorded on the 1834 census of Norka in Household No. 53.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Kreiss family among the Volga German colonies.

Spahr (Nieder-Monjou)*

Philipp Spahr, a single man, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Gabriel Wild.

The widow Philipp Spahr and his children (Johann Peter, age 29; Wilhelmina, age 17) are recorded on the 1798 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. Nm29. Gottfried Spahr, believed to be another son of Philipp Spahr, and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. Nm32.

The death Johann Peter Spahr in 1805 is recorded on the 1811 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 29.

Ehrentraudt

Leopold Ehrentraudt (age 14) is recorded on the 1767 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 68 along with his sister Dorothea (age 20) and her husband Adam Rosenberg. They had settled there on 3 August 1767.

Dorothea is recorded on the 1798 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. Nm49 while Leopold is recorded on the 1798 census of Fischer in Household No. Fs19.

The death of Leonhard [sic] Ehrentraudt in 1834 is recorded on the 1834 census of Fischer in Household No. 13.

Some translations erroneously record this surname as Grontraudt.

Wolf (Norka-2)

The Büdingen marriage register records the marriage of Friedrich Wolff from Weiler on the Nahe [sic] & Anna Elisabeth Paul, daughter of Peter Paul from Gehlweiler, on 5 June 1766.

Friedrich Wolf, his wife Elisabeth Margaretha, and sons (Daniel, age 5; Johann Heinrich, age 3) are recorded on the 1775 census of Norka in Household No. 110.

Friedrich Wolf & Elisabeth Paul and their family are recorded on the 1798 census of Norka in Household No. Nr115.

Haurich

Konrad Hauerich, his wife Anna Katharina, and sons (Johannes, age 3; Johann Just, age 1) are recorded on the 1775 census of Norka in Household No. 154.

They are recorded on the 1798 census of Norka in Household No. Nr161.

Adam Hauerich from Unterdorf and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Ährenfeld.

The 1891-1905 Norka Communion Register records several Haurich families living in Balzer.

Translations of early documents with this surname record it as Khauri, Gauri, or Gauer, but later documents clearly record this family as Hauerich or Haurich.

Hügel

Johann Heinrich Hügel, his wife Katharina, and children (Elisabeth, age 6; Martin, age 5; Johannes, age 4; Johann Peter, age ¼) are recorded on the 1775 census of Norka in Household No. 186.

They are recorded on the 1798 census of Norka in Household No. Nr196.

Geiß (Norka)

Georg Geiß, his wife Anna Barbara, and daughter Gertrude (age 1) are recorded on the 1775 census of Norka in Household No. 202.

They are recorded on the 1798 census of Norka in Household No. Nr212 [erroneously surname is spelled as Gies].

The death of Georg Geiss in 1809 is recorded on the 1811 census of Norka in Household No. 213.
