von Biberstein*

August Marschal von Biberstein, a single man, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 September 1766.

August Marschal von Bieberstein [sic] is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Karl August von Biberstein, a single Prussian Officer (preußischer Offizier), is recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 49 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Biberstein in 1768.

It is after him that the colony of Biberstein took its name.

Wilke

Orphans Johann Heinrich Wilke (age 20) and his brother Johannes (age 17) are recorded on the 1767 census of Bettinger in Household No. 20 along with their brother-in-law Johann Heinrich Busch (who is married to their sister Anna, age 16).

The 1767 census does not record from where the Wilke family came.

Strifler*

Michael Strüffler, a farmer, and his wife Barbara arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 July 1766 aboard a barque named Georg under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.

Michel [sic] Strüffler, his wife Maria Barbara, and daughter Doroth. (born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that newborn daughter Doroth. died en route.

Sitz

Michael Sitz, a single mirror maker (Spiegelmacher), settled in the Volga German colony of Bettinger on 3 August 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 33 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Orlovskaya in 1768.

The death of Michael Sitz in 1830 is recorded on the 1834 census of Orlovskaya in Household No. 92.

The 1767 census records that Michael Sitz came from the German village of Undeit.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.

Seibel (Bettinger)

Christoph Seibel, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Christoph Seipell [sic] and his wife Margaretha are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Christoph Seibel, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and daughter Dorothea (age 5-months) are recorded on the 1767 census of Bettinger in Household No. 23. They had settled there on 3 August 1767.

Schertz*

Johann Schertz, a single miller, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 10 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Peter Pink.

Joh. Gottlob [sic] Schertz is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Johann Gottlieb Schertz, a single butcher (Fleischer), settled in the Volga German colony of Bettinger on 3 August 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 32.

Marx (Bettinger)*

Andreas Marx, a farmer, his wife Katharina, and son Ludwig (age 8) are recorded on the 1767 census of Bettinger in Household No. 17. They had settled there on 3 August 1767.

Ludwig Marx and his wife are recorded on the 1798 census of Bettinger in Household No. Bt15.

The 1767 census records that Andreas Marx came from the German region of Darmstadt.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Marx family among the Volga German colonies.

Martin (Bettinger-2)*

Orphan Walburgis Martin (age 17) is recorded on the 1767 census of Bettinger in Household No. 1 along with the Karl Christoph Bettinger family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Martin and Bettinger families.

The 1767 census does not record from where Walburgis Martin came.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Martin family among the Volga German colonies.
