Wagner (Pobochnaya)

There are two single Wagner men who arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 July 1772 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hartwig.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Pobochnaya on 4 July 1773.

There relationship to each other, if any, is not known.

(1) Anton Wagner is recorded on a 1773 list of Pobochnaya settlers (No. 14).

(2) Johann Heinrich Wagner is recorded on a 1773 list of Pobochnaya settlers (No. 22).

Wittig (Pobochnaya)

Joachim Christian Wittig, his wife Eva Maria Oswald, and daughters (Maria, age 3½; Juliana, age ¾) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 July 1772 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hartwig.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Pobochnaya on 4 July 1773.

They are recorded on a 1773 list of Pobochnaya settlers (No. 2).

The Wittig family is recorded on the 1798 census of Pobochnaya in Households No. Pb09 and Pb26.

Winsel*

Peter Winsel, his wife Anna Maria Weingärtner, and children (Johann Konrad, age 10; Anna Elisabeth, age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 July 1772 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hartwig.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Pobochnaya on 4 July 1773.

They are recorded on a 1773 list of Pobochnaya settlers (No. 19).

Konrad Winsel, recorded on a 1773 list of Pobochnaya settlers (No. 20), is believed to be his father.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies

Wilhelm (Pobochnaya)

Johann Peter Wilhelm, son of Johann Georg & Magdalena Wilhelm, was baptized in Büdingen on 13 October 1724. Margaretha Sabina Thönges, daughter of Geörg Christoph & Catharina Margaretha Thönges, was baptized in Büdingen on 16 February 1735.

Johann Peter Wilhelm & Margaretha Sabina Thönges married in Büdingen on 5 August 1751. 

Straub (Pobochnaya)*

Johann Heinrich Straub, his wife Katharina Elisabeth Winsel, children (Susanna Maria, age 10½; Heinrich Philipp, age 7; Maria Elisabeth, age 1¾), and father-in-law Konrad Winsel arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 July 1772 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hartwig.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Pobochnaya on 4 July 1773.

They are recorded on a 1773 list of Pobochnaya settlers (No. 20).

Stein (Pobochnaya)*

Georg Christoph Stein arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 July 1772 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hartwig.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Pobochnaya on 4 July 1773.

He is recorded on a 1773 list of Pobochnaya settlers (No. 27).

There are no known surviving male lines of this Stein family among the Volga German colonies.

Schneider (Pobochnaya-2)

There are several Schneider families that arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 July 1772 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hartwig. They settled in the Volga German colony of Pobochnaya on 4 July 1773.

One of these families is Samuel Schneider who married Maria Katharina Kalckhoff, daughter of Johann Ludwig & Anna Kalckhoff. She had been born 19 February 1732 and baptized 24 February 1732 in Eckartshausen.

Schmidt (Pobochnaya)*

Johann Heinrich Schmidt, a musketeer from Meerholz, and Anna Catharina Semmel were married in Neuenhaßlau on 29 March 1764.

Anna Catharina Semmel, daughter of Johann Georg Semmel & Anna Catharina Müller, had been born 28 April 1738 and baptized 4 May 1738 in Neuenhaßlau.

The birth and baptism of one child to Johann Heinrich Schmidt & Anna Catharina Semmel is recorded in the parish register of Neuenhaßlau: Anna Catharina, born 28 January 1766, baptized 2 February 1766.

Schlegel (Pobochnaya)

There are two Schlegel families that settled in the colony of Pobochnaya on 4 July 1773. They have the same name, but are uncle and nephew. They had arrived together from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 July 1772 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hartwig.

(1) Frantz Schlegel, son of Conrad Schlegel, was baptized in Roth on 7 December 1721. Anna Dorothea Köhler, daughter of Johann Peter Köhler, was baptized in Roth on 26 March 1724.

Rudi / Rudy

Samuel Rudi, his wife Johanna Welle, and children (Katharina, age 20; Johann Georg, age 16; Johann, age 14; Jakob, age 12½; Konrad, age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 July 1772 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Hartwig.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Pobochnaya on 4 July 1773.

They are recorded on a 1773 list of Pobochnaya settlers (No. 11). Johann Heinrich Rudi is recorded on the 1798 census of Dönhof in Household No. Dh006. He is believed to be another son of Samuel Rudi.
