Zulauf

Research by Maggie Hein has disentangled the Zulauf families that settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm.

The following are sons of Johannes & Anna Catharina Zulauf from Zell: (1) Johannes, born 30 August 1726, baptized 1 September 1726; and (2) Johann Heinrich, born & baptized 5 April 1729.

(1) Johannes Zulauf married in Zell on 27 February 1748 to Susanna Göbel, daughter of Johann Just Göbel from Leußel.

Zorn (Kraft)

Kilian Zorn and his wife Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the pink Cargo under the command of Lieutenant Moses Davydov.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Kraft on 18 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 51.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Kilian Zorn was a tailor from the German region of Würzburg while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer from the German village of Ittingen.

Zöger*

Johannes Zöger, a farmer, and his wife Anna Eva arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Der Jäger under the command of Skipper Gabriel Will.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Seelmann on 15 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 11.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johannes Zöger came from the German region of Fulda. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Speyer in the Pfalz region.

Zinnkann*

Michael Zinnkann, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Michael Zinckan [sic], his wife Anna, and children (Andreas, age 17; Elisabet, age 8; Margareta, age 4; Ludowig, age 2½) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that son Ludowig died en route.

Simroth

Franz Simroth, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Frantz Simroth, his wife Catharina, and children (Catharina, age 16; Johannes, age 3; Elisabet [age not recorded]) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Paulskaya on 3 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 71.

Zimmermann (Warenburg)*

Konrad Zimmermann, a farmer, his wife Maria Elisabeth, and children (Dorothea Katharina, age 12; Henrietta Katharina, age 9; Maria Elisabeth, age 7; Philipp Jakob, age 1/6) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the ship Die Neue Freiheit von Bremen under the command of Skipper Steingrawer.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Warenburg on 12 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 61.

The 1767 census records that Konrad Zimmermann came from the German village of Rosbach in the Darmstadt region.

Zimmermann (Susannental)*

Heinrich Zimmermann, a farmer, his wife Maria, and children (Christina, age 7; Eva, age 5; Johann, age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 July 1766 aboard a barque named Georg under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.

Heinr. Zimmermann, his wife Maria Gertrauth, and children (Elisabetta, age 7; Maria Eva, age 5; Caspar, age 1½) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that both Maria Eva and Caspar died en route.
