Unterdorf was founded in 1852/1853 by colonists resettling from Dönhof, Grimm, Stephan, Franzosen, Norka, and Jost.
Additional families from Dönhof and Shcherbakovka resettled to Unterdorf in 1867.
Today, what remains of the former Volga German colony of Unterdorf is known as Veselovo.
There was a Lutheran church in Unterdorf. The congregation in Unterdorf belonged to the parish in Rosenberg where there was a resident pastor.
